Texas native Calvin Carter is a full time artist and high school art teacher in Port Neches, Texas.  He was raised in Hempstead, Texas where he learned his love for wildlife and sporting art in the fields near Katy Texas with his father and grandfather.  He won his first National Art contest at the age of 19 with the Izaak Walton Youth League of America Art contest. After high school he went on to pursue his art career under Professor Jerry Newman at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Carter went on to graduate from Lamar with a bachelor’s in fine art as well as become a certified school teacher.  He continued to mostly paint figurative art for some time before moving back to his early childhood passion of Wildlife and Sporting Art.  He received numerous commissions and some that took him all the way to Alaska where he painted on a boat for a fishing lodge.  He has created numerous Texas Stamp prints as well as placing fourth place in the Federal Duck Stamp Contest on his first attempt in 2013-2014.  Carter has recently entered the Western Art Scene with his Native American Art being shown in the APA show, Southwest Art Magazine, Art of the West, Bosque show and Pearce Museum permanent collection.   Carter now lives in Port Neches Texas traveling and creating art with his wife while they raise their five wonderful children. He enjoys hunting, fishing, photography, boating, traveling, and spending time with his family.

  • 2008-Out of the Darkness, one man show at the Museum of Southeast Texas in Beaumont Texas.

  • 2008-2013-Donated art work to Texas Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl.
  •   
  • 20010-2013-Art work on display in galleries in Houston, Texas, called Hacko Sporting Art Gallery, Gallery in Woodville, Texas, art Gallery in Bellville, Texas, Collectors Covey Gallery in Dallas Texas and Charlies Gallery.
  •   
  • 2009-2011-Donated art work to SFA University to help create scholarship money for students.
  •   
  • 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 Featured in numerous newspaper articles and magazines.
  •   
  • Recently named 2013-2014 Sponsor Artist of the year for Texas Ducks Unlimited
  •     
  • 2011-Juried a show at the Tyler County Fine Art Gallery in Woodville, Texas

  • 2008-2011-Participated in the Grand Art Ball at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas

  • 2008-2009-Have had numerous shows at the East Texas Art League in Jasper, Texas

  • 2009-Wildlife Art show, Center, Texas.

  • 2009-The Lights and Shadows of Heaven show, Port Arthur Art Museum, Port Arthur, Texas.

  • 2010-Figurative Art Competition, East Texas Art League, Jasper, Texas where I placed 1st.

  • 2011-2013-Donated artwork to the Houston Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

  • 2011-Juried a show at the Woodville Art Museum.

  • 2012-Created the 2012 Texas CCA Stamp and Print.

  • 2012-2013-My artwork was on the June, March April and soon to come August 2013 cover of Texas Outdoor Journal Magazine and some of my photos have been published in the magazine as well.

  • 2012-Created 10 murals for the Cowboy Church in Jasper Texas
  •   
  • 2012-Created a sculpture design for St. Anthony’s Basilica in Beaumont Texas.  Sculpture will be unveiled soon.

  • 2012-Photo was selected editor’s choice in June for Delta Waterfowl and my photo was used in one of their sales magazines
  • 2012-Asked to participate in the Miniature art show at Collector’s Covey in Dallas Texas.
  •   
  • 2012-My painting of a Crappie is selected to be the 2013 Freshwater Stamp for Texas.
  • 2013-Recently interviewed for the alumni section for the Cardinal Cadence.
  • 2013-Radio interview on the Chester Moore Outdoor Show.
  • 2018- Three pieces in the Bosque Classis in Clifton Texas
  • 2018-placed in the top 100 out of 1500 entries for the international Southwest Art Magazine Artistic Excellence contest
  • 2019-Texas Artist Invitational Show and had a piece purchased for the PEARCE Museum Collection
  • 2019-Three pieces in the Bosque Classic in Clifton Texas
  • 2019-Had two pieces accepted into the American Plains Artist Show and my work selected for the invitation.
